Description:

I was tired of half-good themes with some icon from the Mac OS and others from some Crystal theme. So I decided to create my own theme based on what I like.
The "Ultimate Gnome" it's an icon theme for the GNOME linux desktop environment. It is a distro independent theme tested on Gnome 2.24.1 completely drawn with Inkscape. Every icon is drawn in a vectorial format (SVG/XML), and it is exported into a raster format (PNG) for fastest rendering on the screen. The work is published under a GPL (v2), hoping this will help those developers who need a GPL license to include this theme in their software.

I've noticed that when I have this theme on whenever I try to save a picture in firefox, the "save as" window takes longer to scan the directories.

As i browse to the directory i want to save my pic in, all pictures in the directory are displayed in the window. The load time for this is longer compared to the human theme for example.

Has anybody else experienced this?

It's because they're SVG.
The png images weight more, but they're simply buffered and easy displayed.
The SVG icons are "rendered" there is more CPU usage with a completely SVG theme.

I'm thinking of adding all the PNG subformats but with the all PNG subformats it becomes a bit difficult to change or modify an icon in the theme (for a common user) because you have to export all the PNG from the modified SVG file.

Ok I'll try.. but I don't have much time like everybody here.. So I don't know when I'll start working on it.

What do you think about improving that icon set to provide a glossy complementary icon set to the Murrine engine?

I seem to remember commenting that these icons would complement the new Murrine.

Newmoon, I hope you take him up on that suggestion. Cimi's new Murrine with transparency would look great with the Ultimate Gnome icons, and I'm eager to see how they look together.

It appears that icons for .txt files no longer preview their contents. Is this intentional?

I liked it better with the contents previewed.

The missing preview fro *.txt files has been fixed in version 0.1.5 , but I'm going to remove the preview from the files because I think it's better having a simple icon.

No it's not intentional I'll fix it as soon as possible. Thank you for the segnalation.

The best "happy-medium" I've found between the default, functional icons Gnome has, and the glassy, photo-realistic look in Vista/Mac. The Murrine engine will soon support transparency and this should complement it well!

This is one of the best icon themes I've ever used. It really is good looking, but kinda lacks some things, like icons for Songbird, Inkscape, gnome-calculator, etc. Also, I would appreciate if you would make a twitux or gtwitter icon:D I adore your iconset, and I would be really glad to see it complete.

I'm uploading the package to Google Code, because there's an error somewhere.
I'll add an ubuntu-logo icon (maybe something blue).
I don't know what to do with the folder colors, have I only to add orange folder or to create a brand new theme with all the icons colored in orange.

(Sorry for my english)

replaced my onld theme. here's a request, if you don't mind.
Could you change add an icon for the small logo of your OS (like ubuntu's circle thing, in the top left corner, next to "applcations".)

I love this theme, but the orange ubuntu doesn't fit with the blue icons. My last theme had a blue ubuntu logo. Anyway, keep up the good work! :)

I don't know if making a version of the ubuntu logo will compromise the license of the theme. If someone could tell me something about the license of ubuntu logo, I would change it soon.
